The following are some of the events connected with S. Mary’s from the start of Advent, through Christmas and including some of the Festivals and other events in early 2008


Sunday 2nd December - Advent Sunday

8am Eucharist
10am Sung Eucharist  

On each Sunday at the 10am Parish Eucharist, there is a Creche in Church for Babies and pre-school Children and the Sunday Club in the Parish Centre for older children.

Wednesday 5th December
The Parish Advent Quiet Evening will be conducted in the Parish Centre by Fr. John Theobald from 7.30pm.

Thursday 13th December
1.25pm Play and Pray: when the Christmas Story will be celebrated in songs and words for the very youngest.

Sunday 9th December - Advent 2
8am Eucharist
10am Sung Eucharist  

Sunday 16th December – Advent 3

8.00am Eucharist.
10.00am Sung Eucharist
4.00pm Carol and Christingle Service: this marks the commencement of our Christmas Celebrations and everyone is invited through to the Parish Centre afterwards, for mince pies, coffee and orange. Through this Service we support the work of the Children’s Society.

Sunday 23rd December – Advent 4
10.00am Eucharist (said) & Hymns with a Christmas Preparation; there will be activities for children

Monday 24th December – Christmas Eve
10.45pm Blessing of the Crib, Midnight Eucharist and Carols.

Tuesday 25th December – Christmas Day.
8.00am Eucharist and Carols.
10.00am Family Eucharist, Carols and children at the Crib

Wednesday 26th December – S. Stephen

9.30am Eucharist

Thursday 27th December – S. John

10.30am Eucharist: Croft Foulds Court

Friday 28th December – The Innocents
9.30am Eucharist.

Sunday 30th December – 1st Sunday of Christmas.

8.00am Eucharist
10.00am Sung Eucharist & Carols (no Sermon)

Sunday 6th January – Epiphany
8.00am Eucharist
10.00am Family Eucharist, Procession of ‘Wise Men’ [the Children in the congregation] and Epiphany Carols**

Tuesday 15th January
7pm Eucharist followed by “Punch and Pilgrimage”!! This will be the first of our Evenings Together for the New Year and the last to be led by Nicholas and Wendy. There will be an illustrated ‘journey’ through sites of Pilgrimage, “washed down” by punch and light refreshments.

Sunday 3rd February – Candlemas, The Presentation of Christ in the Temple
This will be the last Sunday for Wendy and Nicholas Plant who are retiring from S. Mary’s as Reader and Rector, they hope that as many people as possible will join them on this Sunday.
8.00am Candlemas Liturgy (said) and Eucharist
10.00am Candlemas Liturgy, Procession from the Parish Centre and Sung Eucharist.

The events for Lent, Holy Week and Easter will appear in due course on the web site. We are very pleased to say that all the Services in S. Mary’s from the Monday of Holy Week until and including Easter Sunday, will be led this year by the Bishop of Ripon and Leeds – John Packer
